Description of the genus

Shrub or small tree, erect or straggling. Flowers solitary, axillary, sessile. Bracteoles 4-5, persistent. Calyx entire and completely enclosing the petals in bud, splitting into 3 sepals. Petals 6, in two whorls, free. Stamens numerous, cuneate-quadrate. Carpels 6-10, free. Ripe carpels indehiscent, cylindric, stipitate, succulent. Seed vertical; aril 0.

Worldwide: 1 species in eastern and south-eastern tropical Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
