Description of the genus

Herbaceous twiner, sparsely clothed with pale hairs. Leaves simple, entire or (in ours) 3-lobed, not peltate. Male inflorescences of long-pedunculate axillary racemes. Male flowers: sepals 6-8 in two whorls; petals 0, stamens 3-6, fused into a synandrium. Female inflorescences similar to the male. Female flowers: sepals 6; petals 0; carpels 3-6. Drupelets ± ovoid with smooth exocarp; endocarp verrucose or prickly.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
