Robust lianes. Leaves simple, entire, not peltate. Male inflorescences either of small axillary cymes borne on peduncles or of 3-9-flowered cymes arranged in false racemes, sometimes arising from the old stems. Male flowers: sepals 6-12, thickly textured, glabrous or nearly so, the outer bract-like, the inner much larger; petals 3-6. Female flowers: carpels 6-30. Fruit surface glabrescent, smooth or rugose. Worldwide: 22 species in the tropics of the Old World Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
