Perennial climber (in ours). Leaves simple, entire or lobed, not peltate. Male inflorescences of small many-flowered cymes, clustered (1-) 2-3 together; female inflorescences similar. Male flowers with 6 sepals; 3 outer reduced; the 3 inner concave, free; petals 6, often 2-fid or emarginate; stamens 6-9. Female flowers with similar sepals; staminodes 6 or 0; carpels 3-6.
Fruits obovoid or flattened and rounded drupes. Worldwide: 8 species in the tropics and warm regions, excluding S America and Australia Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
