Description of the genus

Perennials. Inflorescence a solitary raceme enclosed by a boat-shaped reddish spatheole and grouped into a loose compound panicle; raceme dense without homogamous pairs. Sessile spikelets dorsally flattened; callus obtuse; lower glume not grooved; upper glume awned; lower floret reduced to a hyaline lemma; upper floret 2-lobed with glabrous awn. Pedicellate spikelets resembling the sessile but awnless.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropical and South Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
