Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees, often with stilt roots clustered around base. Stipules lanceolate. Leaves crowded near shoot apex; lamina with veins obscure on both surfaces. Inflorescence condensed cymes, pedunclulate, 2-many flowered; bracteoles 2 partly connate; calyx deeply 5 or 6 lobed, tube adnate; petals 5 or 6, white, each embracing 2 stamens. Fruit ovoid or conical. Seed 1, albumin absent, ridged and grooved.

Worldwide: Species 3 from East Africa to northern Australia.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
