Trees or shrubs, glabrous. Stipules minute, caduceus. Leaves alternate, margins entire or toothed, petiolate. Inflorescence condensed pedunculated cymes or false umbels or fascicles, sometimes cauliflorous. Sepals (4)5 free, deciduous; petals (4)5 free, imbricate, spreading, deciduous. Fruit drupaceous woody. Seeds numerous, angular with black testa.
Comment: This genus was formerly placed in its own family Brexiaceae but according to latest thinking (APGIII) has become part of Celastraceae. Worldwide: 1 species in coastal lowlands in East Africa and Mozambique, Madagascar and Seychelles. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
