Shrubs or small trees. Leaves petiolate; stipules green in dry state, erect, persistent, scarcely connate at the base. Inflorescences of small cymes, lateral at successive, moderately lax or condensed; bracteoles present. Flowers 5-merous, subsessile to shortly pedicellate; calyx tube turbinate to ellipsoid; limb-tube with a distinct tubular part and narrowly triangular lobes; corolla white, or red or purple, tube cylindric at the base and campanulate or funnel-shaped above, lobes short and erect or spreading. Fruit globose to ellipsoid, crowned by a persistent calyx limb. Seeds quite large, fleshy. Worldwide: Four species, one in West Africa and three in East/Central Africa. Mozambique: 2 taxa. |
