Trees or shrubs, bark greyish-brown. Stipules interpetiolar, deciduous or persistent. Leaves opposite or ternate. Inflorescence axillary, usually cymose or cincinnoid; calyx cupuliform, truncate or 2-9 dentate; corolla hypocrateriform to infundibuliform, lobes 4-9. Imbricate. Fruit drupaceous, hard, sub-globose to oblong, often angled, mesocarp fibrous, with a hard 4-9 chambered putamen. Worldwide: Species 100, mainly in the Americas, with one widespread species in the Old World. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
