Description of the genus
Erect or ascending annual herb, stems simple or branched. Leaves petiolate, oblong to obovate, entire or coarsely dentate. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils. Corolla tube narrowly funnel-shaped; limb spreading, subequally 5-lobed. Fruit indehiscent, subpyramidal, 4-angled, rounded to acute at the apex and with a spreading spine at each basal angle. Seeds 1–2 in each loculus. Worldwide: A monotypic genus in Africa, Madagascar and Asia. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
