Unarmed shrubs or small trees. Stipules caducous. Leaves simple, alternate; petiolate; margins toothed and frequently cordate. Flowers in axillary, cymose panicles, racemes or fascicles, bisexual or unisexual, rarely dioecious. Sepals 3, subvalvate, free to the base. Petals 6–12, imbricate, larger than the sepals. Ovary 1-locular. Fruit a globose, dehiscent capsule. Seeds moderately numerous, ovoid or compressed, with a crustaceous testa. Worldwide: 2 species in East and Central Africa. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
