Hirtella L.

Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs. Inflorescence (in ours) a terminal or axillary thyrse. Flowers slightly zygomorphic. Receptacle-tube slightly gibbous. Sepals 5, subequal. Petals 5, shorter than sepals. Stamens 3-9; filaments long-exserted. Staminodes free. Ovary inserted at mouth of the receptacle-tube; carpels 1-locular. Style long-exserted. Fruit a drupe; endocarp with 4-7 shallow longitudinal channels.

Worldwide: 103 species; mostly tropical America with 1 in E Africa and Madagascar

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
