Annual or perennial herbs with a sparse indumentum of branched hairs; stems erect or diffuse. Leaves opposite but usually arranged in false whorls, subsessile, obovate to narrowly oblanceolate, entire; stipules scarious. Flowers several in loose or compact cymes. Sepals 9–13, spirally arranged, imbricate. Petals 5–8, hyaline, much shorter than the sepals. Stamens 5–8, alternating with the petals. Ovary with numerous ovules; style with 5 stigmatic arms. Capsule 5-valved. Seeds numerous. Worldwide: 2 species. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
