Description of the genus

Erect perennial herbs. Stems not or sparsely branched from the base. Leaves sessile, the upper ones much reduced and scale-like. Flowers 4-merous in compact, pedunculate, terminal heads. Calyx tube as long as the lobes; corolla regular with a cylindric tube and 4 lobes about as long as the tube. Ovary cylindric-ovoid, unilocular; ovules numerous; style filiform; stigma bilobed. Capsule narrowly-obovoid, bivalved. Seeds numerous, subglobose.

Worldwide: Two species in tropical Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
