Description of the genus

Small shrubs or perennial herbs with tuberous or sub-woody rootstocks, producing annual stems. Leaves alternate, sessile, linear, to elliptic, glabrous or with glandular hairs, margins flat, usually entire. Capitula radiate, many-flowered, solitary at the end of long peduncles. Involucre campanulate; phyllaries in 3 rows, narrowly lanceolate. Receptacle flat. Ray florets in one row, corolla white. Disc florets corolla purplish tube. Pappus of scale-like awns.

Worldwide: Five species endemic to southern Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
