Perennial herbs; stems much-branched, spreading, ashy grey, closely leafy. Leaves alternate, sessile, linear; margins entire, strongly revolute, white-cottony hair below, contrasting strongly with silky grey upper leaf surface and midrib below, giving striped effect to leaves. Capitula disciform, narrowly campanulate, few clustered on branch tips. Phyllaries in 4 rows, outer short, pale brown; inner with milky white tips, exceeding flowers. Receptacle honeycombed, flat. Flowers yellow, 45-65, all lobes glandular-hairy on backs. Pappus of many bristles. Worldwide: 1 species, endemic to the coastal plain of southern Mozambique and its southward extension into Zululand. (Hilliard in FSA) Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
