Perennial. Ligule scarious, adnate to the sheath-auricles; leaf laminas linear. Inflorescence composed of paired racemes, the pairs each subtended by a spatheole and gathered into a scanty false panicle; racemes short; pedicels linear; sessile spikelet terete; inferior glume subcoriaceous with a herbaceous beak 2–3 mm long, rounded on the back and sides; superior glume awnless; inferior floret reduced to a hyaline lemma; superior lemma hyaline, bidentate, passing between the teeth into an awn with pubescent column. Caryopsis narrowly oblong. Worldwide: One species in tropical Africa and Indo-China. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
