Description of the genus

Annual (ours). Inflorescence of (in ours) short secund crowded racemes scattered along a central axis, with the spikelets sessile, 2-seriate, overlapping. Spikelets 1-several-flowered, cuneate, laterally flattened, eventually disarticulating above the glumes and between the florets. Glumes 1-3-nerved, subequal, acuminate to aristate, much longer than the florets. Lemmas 3-nerved, glabrous or pilose on the nerves; apex acute to 2-lobed.

Worldwide: 3 species in tropics and subtropics, from Africa and Madagascar to India

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
