Shrubs or trees, with unbranched, multicellular, coloured hairs, with milky latex. Stipules small. Leaves alternate, simple, without glands; margin serrate with marginal glands below. Inflorescence a terminal elongate spike, lax at maturity. Male flowers: calyx 2-3-lobed; petals 0; stamens 2-3. Female flowers: calyx 2-3-lobed; petals 0; ovary 2(-4)-lobed;styles 2(-4). Fruit 2(-4)-lobed, smooth, shiny, indehiscent or ± so. Seeds smooth, greyish-brown, ecarunculate. Worldwide: 6 species; 3 in Asia, 3 in Africa Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
