Description of the genus

Annuals or perennials. Inflorescence an open or contracted panicle. Spikelet 4-more-flowered Lemmas keeled, scarious-membranous, 3-nerved, villous on lateral nerves; apex 3-lobed and 3-awned, the central lobe 2-toothed and awned from the sinus; laterals lobed on the inner side.

Worldwide: 7 species; 6 in tropical Africa (one also in Arabia) and 1 in Australia

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
