Perennial herbs or shrubs. Leaves alternate, sessile, narrow, often needle-like [which in ours?]. Capitula heterogamous, radiate. Phyllaries in 6-8 rows, spreading and bristle-tipped, with short-stalked glandular hairs. Ray florets female, white, pink or purple; disk florets bisexual, white or yellow. Receptacle without scales. Achenes 3-6-ribbed, hairy but without glands. Pappus in 2 rows: outer consisting of scales, inner of bristles. Worldwide: 14 species in tropical and South Africa. Mozambique: 3 taxa. |
