Description of the genus

Annual or perennial, greyish or white-woolly herbs. Leaves alternate, usually linear, spathulate or obovate, entire, sessile. Capitula heterogamous,small, usually in small compact clusters; florets whitish or yellowish or purple-tinged. Phyllaries in several series. Outer florets female in 2-many series, numerous, usually outnumbering the inner bisexual florets. Pappus of rather soft bristles, sometimes 0 in female florets.

Worldwide: c. 50 species, cosmopolitan

Mozambique: 4 taxa.
