Dioecious trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, persistently tomentose or lanate beneath. Capitula numerous, in terminal or axillary panicles. Capitula unisexual, disciform; receptacle without scales, sometimes with long silky hairs. Phyllaries 1-2-seriate. Male capitula: florets many; corolla longer than female florets; lobes recurved; ovary abortive or rudimentary; pappus 0. Female capitula: florets 1-3-flowered; anthers 0; achenes woolly; pappus 0. Worldwide: 2 species in Africa and Arabia. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
