Description of the genus

Low shrubs, perennial or annual herbs, often resiniferous. Leaves alternate or rarely opposite, sometimes fasciculate, simple, often linear or lanceolate. Capitula heterogamous, radiate; usually with ray florets female and disk florets bisexual. Phyllaries 3-4-seriate. Rays (in our area) white to pale mauve, or yellow. Achenes flat, ± obovate, with two lateral ribs. Pappus 1-seriate, of numerous hairs or bristles, normally of equal length, dentate to barbellate.

Derivation of name: for Fortunate Bartolomeo de Felice 1723-1789, Italian-Swiss philosopher and scientist.

Worldwide: 83 species, mainly South Africa, with a few extending to tropical Africa and Arabia.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
