Spiny shrubs. Leaves usually in axillary clusters, simple, entire. Flowers actinomorphic, solitary or in small clusters. Calyx 5-toothed or weakly 2-lipped with 2-3 teeth, scarcely enlarging in fruit. Corolla narrowly funnel-shaped; lobes spreading. Fruit a small berry. Derivation of name: Greek name from the country Lycia. Worldwide: 100 species in warm temperate regions, mostly America. Mozambique: 4 taxa. |
