Perennial herb (in ours). Inflorescence racemose; bracts leaf-like, often smaller towards the apex of the
inflorescence; whorls 2-flowered. Calyx pouch-shaped, 2-lipped; lips equal in length, entire, broad, rounded, the upper bearing a transverse
protruding outgrowth and finally deciduous, the lower persistent. Corolla 2-lipped. Stamens 4, ascending under the upper lip. Nutlets tuberculate or variously sculptured. Worldwide: c. 350 species, cosmopolitan. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
