Shrubs or small trees. Leaves thick, glaucous (in ours), sessile. Inflorescences composed of lateral umbellate cymes. Calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate. Corolla broadly campanulate; lobes purplish pink. Corona of broad scales, laterally flattened with a dorsal spur. Style head pentagonal. See close-up of flower. Fruit composed of paired inflated follicles, containing seeds with long silky hairs. Worldwide: 3 species in tropical and warm regions of Africa and India Mozambique: 2 taxa. |
