Description of the genus

Perennial herb (in ours). Leaves narrow, entire, 3-nerved. Flowers (4-)5-merous, in axillary clusters. Calyx with 3 short basal glands. Corolla actinomorphic; lobes shorter than tube, Filaments with a double-hooded scale at the base. Ovary 1-locular. Capsule obovoid with numerous seeds.

Worldwide: 3 species from Central America, West Indies, Africa, to the Lesser Sunda Islands and Madagascar

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
