Common names: Fiddle-leaved fig (English) Lyrate-leaved fig (English)
Description: A free-standing tree in gardens to 16 m. Branchlets stout, 10-15 mm in diameter. Leaves petiole up to 5 cm long; lamina large, up to 45 × 30 cm, stiff, prominently raised between the sunken veins, violin-shaped; base cordate or lobed; apex obtuse or emarginate; margin entire, wavy; stipules large, to 4 cm long. Fruit sessile, single or in pairs in the leaf axils, 4-6 cm in diameter, green with white spots.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: lyrata: shaped like a lyre.
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: West Africa from Sierra Leone to Cameroon.
