755.000 Colocasia Schott

Description of the genus

Robust herbs with large tuber. Leaves peltate, cordate-sagittate; lamina simple. Plant flowering with leaves. Spathe with a short green ellipsoid basal tube (which is not strongly inflated) and much longer yellow to orange apex. Spadix shorter than spathe with a conical naked sterile appendix. Flowers unisexual.

Worldwide: 8 species in tropical Asia; C. esculenta widely cultivated throughout the tropics
