Description of the genus

Shrubs or tree-lets; latex clear and non-toxic. Stipules minute caducous, sometimes obsolete. Leaves alternate, petiolate; lamina margins entire, rarely lobed, venation pinnate. Inflorescence axillary, long, unbranched. Calyx (3-)5(-6)-lobed, lobes imbricate, petals small, 5 or 6, rarely absent; disc divided into 5-15 free glands. Fruit capsules. Seeds carunculate.

Worldwide: 15 species in Indonesia, Philippines to New Guinea, tropical Australia and pacific Islands.

Mozambique: 1 cultivated taxon.
