Trees or shrubs. Stems usually 4-angled. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3, (1-)3-7-foliolate. Cymes mostly dichasial, short and dense to open and spreading, bracts often well developed. Corolla white and/or coloured, mostly shades of blue, lilac or mauve, ± zygomorphic; limb spreading ± 2-lipped. Stamens 4, didynamous. Drupes fleshy; fruiting calyx usually accrescent, plate-like or cup-shaped. Worldwide: 250 species occurring in tropical and temperate regions Mozambique: 1 cultivated taxon. |
