Usually dioecious, rarely monoecious, evergreen trees. Branches whorled. Leaves awl-shaped or broadly ovate and flattened. Male flowers: large and cone-like, axillary or terminal; stamens numerous. Female flowers: in terminal heads, maturing to a woody cone; each scale with 1 seed, without distinct bracts. Worldwide: 3 genera and 39 species in the southern hemisphere (excluding Africa) to SE Asia Mozambique: 1 cultivated genus and 2 cultivated taxa. |
